Just noticed this (using Frame version 15.0.3.573). -Create a .pdf in High Print Quality. -Copy verbiage from .pdf into a FrameMaker file (or anything, including Word) -Get gibberish: ĂĐŬ ƵƉ ƚŚĞ ǁŚĞĞů ƚĂďůĞƐ ĨŽƌ Ăůů ŵďŽƐƐͬ/ŶĚĞŶƚ ŵŽĚƵůĞƐ ŝŶ ƚŚĞ ƐLJƐƚĞŵ͘ D ĐĐĞƐƐ DyϮϬϬϬ Žƌ DyϲϬϬϬ ŝĂŐŶŽƐƚŝĐƐ ĨŽƌ ƚŚĞ ĨŝƌƐƚ ŵďŽƐƐͬ/ŶĚĞŶƚ ŵŽĚƵůĞ͘ E ^ĞůĞĐƚ ƚŚĞ tŚĞĞů dĂďůĞ ŽŶĨŝŐƵƌĂƚŝŽŶƐ ƚĂď͘ F ^ĞůĞĐƚ &ŝůĞ х džƉŽƌƚ tŚĞĞů ^ůŽƚ ŽŶĨŝŐƵƌĂƚŝŽŶƐ͘ if you .pdf a file from Word, it's fine. Files that I .pdfed a couple weeks ago are also fine - I can copy/paste from them. Is this supposed to be happening? Thanks for any information you can provide.

Thanks for the suggestion. We actually are running the Beta version of the next update...unfortunately, that didn't help this size issue.

thank you - that does lessen the file size, but I'm hoping to do this without having to create a .pdf through FrameMaker and then have another redundant instance of the same .pdf.

We recently moved to FrameMaker 2019 from FrameMaker 2015. Our .pdf output files are now huge, compared to what they were before switching versions. For instance, using the exact same book, the output is thus: Old pdf (FM 2015, Smallest file size selected): 1889 KB New pdf (FM 2019 with the Defaults.sts set to Smallest file size😞 43,645 KB Reduced file size pdf (in Acrobat - File>Save as Other>Reduced Size PDF): 3624 KB What's going on? Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this? it's not an option to create the .pdf then save it as a smaller file in Acrobat, that's just way too redundant. Thanks for anything you can offer.

My apologies, I was looking at the wrong information. We are using: 15.0.2.503 with second update applies. Also, the application grays out, "Not Responding" displays at the top of the screen, and the cursor spins continually.

Good Morning, We are using 64-bit FrameMaker 2019 v13.0.5.547 (second update applied). FrameMaker locks up constantly - it just stops and becomes non-responsive. Nothing pops up to say that FrameMaker stopped working, or any other notification. I have to manually shut it down. I thought it was just when I tried to create a .pdf, but most recently it happened when I was scrolling through a .fm document. I looked through the forum and saw a few variations of this, but nothing that offered a solution. If there is one, please point me to that string and I'll close this one. Thank you for any input or guidance you can give.

Hi Jeff, Yes, we have applied all applicable updates. Also, when I try to use the Publish feature to create a pdf file, I don't see PDF as an option: Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? Anne

We switched to the 64-bit version and while it is significantly slower in rendering .pdfs, the images now show up OK.

Has this been updated? I just installed the update #2 and while my images worked correctly before the update (which fixed other .pdf issues) they now are either just black squares or the colors render completely wrong. My current version is 15.02.503

Hi Sean, I'm curious if you've learned anything more about publishing .pdfs, specifically the annoying dialog that pops up when you click 'save as pdf' and the pdf not saving with the .fm book or document. My department is ready to revolt and string up their leader (me) for putting them through this every time they need to generate a .pdf. Any ideas or tips you've learned? Thanks!

Using FrameMaker 13.0. When I import a graphic (.png file) whose background shows as transparent everywhere else (Word, Photoshop, InDesign), it becomes opaque and covers everything underneath it. I've not had this happen before until recently and can't find a setting that appears to need to change. Any ideas? Thanks!
