Except unless I am missing it, you can't CENTER the pages. They start at x:0 and y:0. My previous 3rd party script (that had OPTIONS) no longer works

Thanks. that actually worked but doesn't satisfy my curiosity as to WHY it happens this way. Sort of defeated the idea of me setting up masters and it's never happened before. A few signs actually got printed without the graphics. Thanks again

No! I drag on of the 3 master pages down into my pages area. Then, I "override" the master on THAT PAGE so I can type in it where my placeholder text is and ONE graphic disappears (see screenshots above)

everything stays the same except the # of lines of text changes. The 3 masters are identical except for having 1, 2 or 3 lines of text. Except I need to override the master to enter the new text which changes for each sign. Doesn't matter which master I use the bottom right graphic vanishes when I over ride. It's not a linked image; it's a copied vector image from Illustrator. I can upload the actual file if I can figure out a way. My coworkers get the same happening when they mess with it

I have several sets of signs and banners I do for a customer where the only variable is 1-3 lines of text. Everything that is consistent is on 3 sets of master pages (for 1, 2 and 3 lines of variable text) Lately, when I drag a new master page down and override the page to enter my new text, several of the common graphics simply VANISH for some reason. This has bitten me more than once. If I drag some of these elements to their own layer, it seems to rectify it but that is not really "solving" my problem. This is a new one. And one more thing that I don't feel I should have to babysit, especially given the speed that I am asked to work. I set up the masters to SAVE time, not to have to redo jobs.

Yeah, this is pretty great. I have a 233.9 MB image I need to place in Illustrator in order to produce a wall graphic. "Insufficient Memory", even though I've done similar numerous times before. If I posted how many times Adobe's "upgraded" software actively made my job HARDER, I'd never leave this forum

This is Acrobat specific and something Adobe hasn't addressed in at least 5 years. There are TWO different areas with the "ink manager" menu, complete with the "convert to process" feature. Except "convert to process" only works in ONE of those menus - and sometimes not even then. It will SAY it worked and show it to you in output preview but those spot colors are still there. The "color management" ink manager works most of the time but the one under "output preview" doesn't do anything

So this is a good one. I've had it happen before but only I moved the links or renamed them or something. I've got an illustrator file with 8 placed images (linked). Made a pdf then got a customer change and ALL of the links come up missing on my re-open even though they are all sitting a single folder along with the art file. No sub folders, name changes, relocation... Just...missing and I had to re-link them one by one.

One of the weirdest things Adobe has always enjoyed doing is changing keyboard shortcuts and moving menu items, often for no good reason whatsoever. That was usually the extent of my issues with previous iterations but this one is just a nightmare. Just because it's a new calendar year does not mean you have to issue a new version. It's not a Madden football game. If ti works well enough and complaints are minimal, then just fix the few weird bugs, leave everything else alone and count your money. The subscription model is BS because I can go weeks/months without getting freelance assignment so any profit I make is used up in fees. It's not like Netflix or something where if I don't watch much that month then I'm getting ripped off since it's up to me what to view and it's also not being used as a business tool. (I've heard defenders cite the Netflix argument/comparison)

One big one slipped my mind and it's not exclusive to CC19. For whatever reason, Adobe has more than once decided to change the type engine. This has resulted on more than one occasion with our shop messing up orders through no fault of their own. What happens is that opening up a document not native to the specific year's version it was created in results in reflowed type. This has created nightmares for pick up jobs, heavily tabbed layouts and pages that use tables. For no good reason at all, all of the type in a 48 page document will completely reflow and generate new line breaks that we have no real reason to even consider looking for.

Daniel E Lane My God man are you in Adobe's PR dept? We get it. You like the software and haven't had a problem. Other people have legit problems (like myself) and I've been using Adobe products since 1993. And the subscription model is "an arm and a leg" for a part time freelancer like myself who may get one or three side projects a month and maybe not get any for 2 or 3 months after that. For the two months it sits there, I basically lost the money I made freelancing, not only paying for software I'm not using but for software that breaks itself whenever it decides I need an "Upgrade".

This is typical. Dear Adobe, Just because it's a new calendar year doesn't not mean you HAVE to "upgrade" your product. Just sit back, fix what's broken and count our money. Don't move menu items, change keyboard commands, completely whack out the interface (Acrobat DC) or invent less efficient ways to do what most of us have been doing for over a decade now. I've only spent one day in one app (Illustrator) and so far I have: - A weird diagonal, dashed black line running from the top right corner to the center of my art. It's not "there" nor selectable - Clicking on a blank area does not "deselect" anything. I have to go to the menu to "deselect all". - A lot of my tools "flicker" and "blink" when I am trying to work - When I scroll down in preview/separations mode, the screen "breaks up" the image as i do so. Each "Step" or "click" up or down sort of "chops up" my piece until I refresh. Happens all the time in InDesign too. Lastly, and most important, we run a Graphtec cutter through the machine that we "uprgaded" and the "CutMaster" plug in will not load. I updated to latest CM4 and now Illustrator just hangs there on the boot up screen and gets caught in some sort of loop. I am going to to try and reinstall everything but... I LOST 3 or 4 HOURS OF WORK TIME yesterday messing with this junk so, basically our entire profit margaine on the order. This software is supposed to make us more proficient, NOT slow us down. Or shut us down. I really wish Adobe would knock it off with these "upgrades" and just focus on smoothing out previous issues. How do you manage to just suddenly break things that have been working just fine for 15+ years? Do you actually practice/work with the software before release or just use people trying to get work done as your Guinea pigs?

Our shop recently upgraded our machines and software and, whoo boy. I've been wrestling this awful thing (Acrobat DC) for a few months now and have honestly never seen anything quite like it. This iteration of Acrobat has to be the most insane design decision I've ever seen. Forget the abominable, counter intuitive interface that nobody anywhere asked for. Forget the clunky navigation and long, drawn out tool and workspace customization needed to make it workable. Forget the constant crashes when I want to view separations and that they often don't accurately reflect the actual inks anyway without refreshing. Forget that if I convert a file to greyscale, it will make my 100% blacks 94% no matter what gamma or boxes I check. Forget that if I try to select more than one object in output preview, it adds a sticky note instead. Forget the thin white lines that show up on my and my customer's screens that don't print. Aside from this ridiculous interface, my main gripe with it is that tools don't do what they're supposed to. Sometimes the select tool lets me, you know select an object. Often it does not. Marquee select? Forget that. It just draws a transparent blue rectangle that doesn't select anything. When I am lucky enough to get a selection made and navigate to "edit object"/"edit using", I will open that piece of the pdf in Illustrator or PS, edit it and then when I re-save my pdf, the edits do not show up. I could go on. I am honestly baffled at the thinking that led to this decision. Having to learn drastically redesigned new interfaces is only not needed, it hampers productivity - the opposite of what it is designed to do. Is it too much to ask to request that Adobe simply collect our money every month, tweak the bugs and just polish the product? I am not getting paid to re-learn software I a was hired to be proficient in.

Maybe I should take it to Acrobat forum, but here's another one. I have a 16 page pdf that was built in god knows what and am tricking it into printing greyscale. I got it where I want, then "convert to greyscale" my pdf in Acrobat and all of my 100% black areas are scaled back to 91% no matter what gamma I use. This has been this way for 10 years now. It's astonishing. in fairness, "upgrading" to the latest version of Illustrator DID fix my document setup issue where I can now use mathematical formulas to set up large docs. I work in signs and large format so now an 8 foot wide sign I can type "8 * 12" and get the result I need, so kudos to ADOBE for breaking something that worked fine for 20 years and then fixing it. On the other hand, the "upgrade" did overwrite all of my preferences now that I finally have them set like I want them. Anxiously awaiting the remapped keyboard shortcuts and rearranged menus because that always speeds up my workflow.

Shocking. I have a brand new Imac and brand new updated software and I get better results from my 7 year old Imac and CS4 at home, It's not you. "Have you tried erasing this, reinstalling that, turning your computer on its side, rubbing your belly and jumping on one foot?" Adobe products are becoming demonstrably worse ever since they figured out a way to perpetually charge people instead of enticing people to buy and upgrade. They've peaked and eventually will be supplanted.

LOL, seriously? This is the solution? It's Adobe's solution to everything and, more than half the time, manages to break something else or, worse, brick my software. You guys should see my preview issues in InDesign right now. I can't trust a damned thing I see on screen. White lines cutting through my art, graphics sort of "jumping" all over the page if I scroll or zoom, truly bizarre VCR/CRT TV type "test pattern" static looking weirdness in Illustrator and InDesign. Fonts not loading. Color swatches I absolutely can not delete or alias. I have more. I've been setting up documents in this manner for decades. I use the transform palette and the software's built in calculation tools (since computers are inherently great at math and precision is a must in my job). "please calculate 9 x 12" is not something that should challenge the program and "get the new version" is not a solution. It's an excuse for breaking something that was never broken. i should not have to run to the internet 2 or 3 times a week to figure out why the software I use is not working in the way that it should. Anxiously awaiting the "updated" software where commands are moved to different menus and keyboard shortcuts are re-assigned for no good reason at all and things that worked smoothy for years are inexplicably broken. Quark died because of crap like this; extortion, buggy software, greed, inattention and complete disdain for their customer base. Your software is fantastic...WHEN IT WORKS. CS4 and CS5 were golden and I still use them (until you brick them on me) at home. Just polish those, iron out the bugs and collect your subscription money. You folks are beginning to rival Comcast in terms of customer service and, even worse, quality.

Update: Adobe Illustrator > New Document I have an 8 foot by 3 foot sign so to set it up in inches, I type "8 * 12" for the width. Illustrator calculates this as ".02 inches". If I do this with the rectangle tool, it works properly.

I'll just keep dog piling. Anyone want to explain what goes in with my display, especially in preview mode? Today my cursor is blinking no matter what tool I use. It alternates between the tool I have selected and the one I selected previously. Also, frequently, my display shows a white horizontal line cutting directly through my art. It doesn't print, but it's noticeable enough for me to hold off and check the job. Zooming in or out, it's still there. Last week the preview got so bad in Illustrator that the whole bottom of the file looked like an old VCR/TV that needed a tracking adjustment. I've had to restart twice today because Adobe chokes while searching for updates or "syncing". A font I had loaded today (and needed) worked in Illustrator but not InDesign, forcing me to set it in Illustrator, convert it to outlines and place it. The Acrobat interface remains a disaster. So much so that my dept has wisely decided not to even use it. While in separations mode, if I want to hold the shift key down to select multiple objects, it adds a green sticky note instead. This is a known bug that has been there for YEARS. I'm just gonna keep this thread open and post in it every time this crap happens (so every day). I'm not anti Adobe at aLL. CS2-CS4 were fantastic. Hmmm.....I wonder what happened after Cs4 or 5? Couldn't have anything to do with Adobe conquering the market could it? No competition.

Having the exact same problem. This "solution" is all well and good but I have a better suggestion. How about making the software work as advertised? Why is the onus on the user to do all of this stuff? I have a brand new iMAc and completely updated everything and this happens to me DAILY.

This entire Acrobat DC thing is a complete fiasco as well. I'm not sure if Adobe realizes this, but my boss doesn't pay me to completely re-learn your interface for basically no good reason at all. Please, PLEASE just fix what is buggy, stop trying to reinvent things and just polish the software and collect your monthly subscription charges. This BS is actively affecting my ability to do my job - FULL STOP. It's not just me either. I am surrounded by professionals who have been doing this work for 20+ years and they are equally baffled when I ask for help. Of course, they were smart enough not to "upgrade" to Acrobat DC. I've been in printing and graphics since 1993 so I'm not exactly new to change. Your company is becoming more and more like Quark every day and look what happened to them.

If I get a file from a customer using a more recent version of ID than I have and use the "convert" option, more times than not the text reflows in a way that's not accurate. Same fonts loaded - same everything - except the line breaks change. Particularly inconvenient and troublesome with tabs and sometimes tables. This has happened to me a few times now. Is there a preference buried somewhere I'm not setting correctly or did Adobe just suddenly decide to compose text in a different way for no reason at all? Of course the answer is "update to the latest version" but every time we do that in my shop, we get unexpected weirdness with our RIP, conflicts, bugs, etc. so we tend to put off "upgrading" until we absolutely have to.
