Tried Powertoys v0.72.0. It also does the trick. But when the pdf preview is enabled in Powertoys, the preview handler in MS Outlook no longer works. Just had to reinstall an user in Windows 10 2004 and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2020.009.20074 Same issue. Same fix did the trick. Don't forget at point 4, installing the fix, you must also apply the fix. It changes 32-bit AppID (Also, just the fix does not solve the issue. I had to go trough all the steps, to get the result.) p.s. Do you have additional software installed that is also capable to show PDF thumbnails? I have software (FastPictureViewer) to show thumbnails for many unsupported pictureformates (like PSD's) There I had to disable the create PDF thumbnail function. You can remove miniatures after point 4.

I installed Windows Device Recovery Tool to fix a Lumia phone. The same thing happend. I updated this software after I changed the Photo app to no longer be the standard app for the .ico extension and now it also shows the correct icon. Maybe this is not an Adobe issue.

I can open the .ico file in several applications without any problem, but indeed not with the current Photo app. When I try to open it in Photoshop Elements (with an ico plug-in) it also does not open and reports an idType error.

Hello dentedharp90041, There are two things I question. 1 - I have changed the default programm for .ico to irfanview64 and than I got the correct Adobe Reader DC icon, not the Irfanview icon. 2 - I have checked the SC_Reader.ico at the location mentioned and on my system it does not appear corrupted. It opens correctly in Irfanview64. So, maybe there is more to it.

I had the same issue. Found a solution. If you check "Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer" in Adobe Reader DC (latest version at the time of writing) and you put a PDF on the desktop, the thumbnail should only show the representation of your PDF (left) and not PDF on a white background (right). If it shows the PDF on a white square background, chances are it will turn black on you. I did the following. 1 - Start Adobe Reader DC and uncheck "Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer" 2 - I logged out and the back in Windows 10. 3 - Place a PDF to your desktop. It should show the PDF icon and not the miniature representation. 4 - I installed the Adobe Reader 64 bit fix from here: https://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/ 5 - Rebooted Windows 10 6 - Start Adobe Reader DC and check "Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer" 7 - Now the PDF's should look like this: It looks like an Alpha channel issue

Did the tric for me to. Nice find! I found that it should not be the Prefered Windows 10 Photo app. Paint is fine, but on my system so are others as Paint3D or Irfanview (I use 64 bit).

Same here. On a Windows 8.1 64 bit laptop. Recently updated. When the option "continue" is selected, Flash player seems to continue.

This solved the problem on my system. System was and will be set again to 114%, After changing it as you suggested the online installer (18.0.0.209) worked again. Nice find. Hope you can fix it soon.

Same Issue on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1 PC Gedeelde bestanden - Acrobat.com Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1 Installed the offline versions (AX and NPAPI) flash 18.0.209 without a problem on the PC (The online updates worked fine on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1 Laptop.)
