Here's what I posted in Adobe's “Photoshop family, problem conversation” area Please restore Blu-ray (and AVCHD) authoring and burning to PrE 2018. I’ve been an enthusiastic PrE user since the very beginning, and always update to the latest version when it becomes available. My motivations for upgrading are (in order), improved stability and bug fixes, faster performance, and new features. However, the latest version, PrE 2018 shocked me when I learned that support for authoring Blu-ray discs was dropped. Note that I found out the hard way. I used PrE 2018 to complete a 90 minute movie of my daughter’s wedding. However, when I went to burn Blu-ray discs for the family I realized that Blu-ray support had disappeared. Dropping a feature like this without mentioning it in the product announcement, release notes, or read-me file is really unethical for a highly professional company such as Adobe. Shame on you! Also, since I just invested in a new Windows desktop for video editing and paid extra for a built in Blu-ray burner (had to purchase the Dell commercial line, rather than their less expensive consumer model), I am particularly annoyed. Fortunately, I had kept PrE 15 so I was able to complete my Blu-ray project and keep the family happy. I realize that Blu-ray isn’t as popular as it used to be, but for us amateur video makers who distribute their work for viewing on large screen HD televisions, it’s really the only practical option. Distributing to non-tech family members via online (YouTube & Vimeo), or USB memory sticks just doesn’t work for us. Many in my audience don’t have internet connected “smart” televisions, or, if they do, are challenged to make it work. But, they do have Blu-ray players and know how to use them as they regularly watch Blu-rays movies from Red Box and Netflix. Also, they really appreciate having scene menus to quickly locate favorite scenes, especially longer movies (e.g., video yearbooks, weddings, etc). So, my key requests are: 1. Restore Blu-ray (and AVCHD) authoring and burning to PrE 2018. 2. Change your product strategies to promote upward compatibility, so that customers aren’t left high and dry when a new version is release. 3. Change your business practices so if an existing feature or capability is dropped (for good reason), you a. Announce it to the user community in advance b. Highlight it in the product information, release notes, read-me, etc. c. Provide a “work around”
