You need only one single tab, a right alignment one, to get the numbering right. With your document's paragraph style there are two tabs defined. Just do only one like I did. **the second tab was an error, when I delete it the text still looks the same. Again see my first reply with the screenshots. 1. There is one tab defined as prefix in the endnote preferences. 2. The tab in the paragraph style is positioned between the negative first line indent and the positive all lines indent. **this is how the endnote options are set up for sample with tab.indd Here is a screenshot of the endnote options for this file.

Hi Uwe, For note number 3 even if you take off the -5 tracking the first line is still too tight, and there is no -5 tracking for notes 1, 2, 7, and 8 and they look like there is negative tracking applied to the first line. Especially note number 8, where visually there doesn't seem to be any word spacing for the first line.

Hi Uwe, Ok, I have packaged the 3 Indesign sample files. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1HnwWe2ZDe_2W4J9xMzpDngOICRiYitiZ The paragraph style is NTX. What I want is to use the tab in the prefix field in the Endnote Options and have the line breaks be the same as the "sample with inserted figure spaces folder" file. Thanks for your help. Hi Uwe, But your first line of text does not extend out to the right margin and run over to the second line. I am attaching a link to a folder with pdf samples. The note # of note 6 is not an issue, this was just a samplle. Indesign note alignment - Google Drive Wanda

Hi Uwe, Thanks for replying. My problem is not setting up the numbers, the problem is the kerning of the first line of the note for notes longer than 1 line. My 1st attachment was to show you how it is supposed to look, see note #1, the line ends with "Shin-". In the 2nd and 3rd attachment note #1 ends with Shinshu, but in the 2nd attachment the line is all bunched up. Do you have any ideas on how to fix or work around this using the instructions you posted? Wanda

When I use a tab as a prefix in the Endnote Options and set up a right align tab in my paragraph style so the note numbers will be right aligned the first line of the note does not justify correctly. What I've figured out is that when I put the tab in the prefix the first line does not rejustify, it just takes the text that would be on the line without the tab and smashes it all together. Has anyone else experienced this, and do you know how I can fix this without having to insert figure spaces before every note? I have attached 3 images, one the way it should look like (with figure spaces in front of the number to get the numbers to somewhat right align), one the way it looks with the tab in the prefix box in the Endnote Options, and one the way it looks without the tab so you can see the line breaks are the same as the one with the tab.

I've made fonts to create non unicode (and missing unicode) characters before, but the publisher I work with does not want me to do this any more. I'll check out Indyfont. The publisher I work with also does not want inline graphics. Microsoft has an IME called "Old Hangul" which I installed on my PC but it seems to only work with Word, not the CC suite. Have modified Source Han Sans to create characters I needed in the past, did not know there was a Korean version of it so I'll check that out also. Thanks for your help David.

This is a modified query I posted in the Indesign forum, but apparently have the same problem in Photoshop. I have a manuscript that uses old Korean characters that are non Unicode in a font called NanumBarunGothic YetHangul. These characters appear to be combinations of Unicode characters within the font, so when I place the Word file into Indesign I end up with not 1 non Unicode character but 3 Unicode characters. The sample below done in MS Word shows the highlighted character I need (unicode 110B, 11A2, 11C1): If I copy/paste or place or type in the character in Indesign using Adobe Paragraph composer or Japanese composer, or in Photoshop I get this: If I turn on in Indesign World Ready composer I get this: Does anyone know how I can get Indesign or Photoshop to display the correct character like I can in Word? And I do not know Korean so using the Korean versions of the Adobe software is not really an option for me. I'm using Windows 8, Adobe CC 2016. My only option right now is to type in 3 individual unicodes and kern and adjust height spacing (green character below), which I really do not look forward to doing for all the old Korean characters that are non Unicode. Yes, it is a manuscript about "old" Korean. The best I could do was input the 3 unicodes of the individual characters and kern them into position (character in green): It's just so frustrating since I can insert the 3 unicodes in Word and the correct character will appear. I will post in the Type and Typography forum, maybe someone there has some ideas. Thanks for all your help.

I need to have the character highlighted in yellow (this is from Word): When I use World Ready composer I get this: When I turn off World Ready composer or use the method described above for J composer I get this: It appears that if the glyph combined from 3 jamo is within the font I can get the character with the workaround I used in a previous post, but if the glyph is not in the font the most Indesign will let me do is combine 2 jamo (the first character is a glyph in the font). Unless I am doing something wrong in J composer. If there is anything else I can try please let me know.

Thanks Joel, unfortunately the characters have to be the same as in the Word document. I figured out a workaround for glyphs that are in the font: I put <i> and </i> around the italics for this test in Word, then imported the document with no formatting and styles. In Indesign I used Peter Kahrel's wonderful missing glyphs script to apply the Nanum font to the Korean, and GREP to replace the italic. Now I just have to figure out how to somehow display the correct character for the ones that are 3 jamo into 1 block that has no glyph available in the font. World Ready composer actually deconstructed a block into the individual 3 jamo when I tried to use it, when I have it off I get 2 jamo in a block and then the extra jamo like in the image you uploaded. I don't know Korean so installing the Korean version of Indesign would not really help me. I very much appreciate your help, and if you or anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

Hi Joel, I've got Windows 8 with CC2016, the font is a ttf (sorry, I put the link for the font in my original post but it got edited out), and if I open the Word file it looks fine. I put a sample Word file with the glyphs highlighted and the font in my Google Drive, Old Korean - Google Drive . The folder is shared with anyone with the link, view only rights. I have a manuscript that uses old Korean characters that are non Unicode. These characters appear to be combinations of Unicode characters within the font ,so when I place the Word file into Indesign I end up with not 1 non Unicode character but 3 Unicode characters. If I place the Word file and strip out all the formatting while importing I get the usual pink boxes, but when I highlight and apply the Korean font the 1 non Unicode character will display correctly. Unfortunately, I will also lose all style formatting in the file using this method. If I copy the character into FInd/Replace it becomes the 3 characters and Indesign cannot replace it with the correct non Unicode character. I also tried copy/paste the character into the Glyph find/replace and it does not show up for find, but will for replace when I type in the GID number. Does anyone know of a way I could place the Word file without the character splitting into it's 3 parts? The character in the font I've been using as a test is GID 28348, the font name in Indesign is NanumBarunGothic YetHangul. Or does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.
