My current computer, which is running Windows 10 and Photoshop Elements 2021, cannnot be upgraded to Windows 11. I am looking at purchasing a new computer and buying the new Photoshop Elements 2026. My current catalog and all my images are on an external hard drive. Could it be as simple as just plugging in that hard drive on the new computer and pointing to the catalog or is there a "gotcha" somewhere that I am missing?

Okay. I tried what you suggeted; i.e., restoring from the latest incremental backup to a separate folder for the catalog with the original folder option. As it started the program said you need to have all three backups available which I did (they are all on the same external drive) so I think it knew what I had done. However, after chugging along processing it came up and said "where is the next backup?" with no choice but supplying a file name or cancel. Do you think I should try doing the same thing but starting with the full backup? At the speed the first recovery ran I think it is not updating the image files as you said.

I uderstand what you are saying and I read the article to which you pointed. I have the full backup from January 2024 on the same external disk as the two incremental backups. All of these backups were of the catalog and the images, i.e., I did not do a backup of the Catalog structure. How do you speify that ONLY the catalog is to be restored and NOT any of the image files? I don't see an option for that.

My C: drive for all intents and purpose is as it was February 2024. I can open the Organizer (and Editor) and see all of my images as of February 2024. What I am asking is whether there is a way to recover a version of the catalog from a later date from the incremental backups taken in October 2024 and March 2025? Images on the external drive are in their original location and were not affcted by the loss of the C drive and do not need to be "restored" (or reloaded).

I have all of my images on an external hard drive but my catalog was on the local C:drive. Recently the C drive crashed and a catalog from February 2024 has been recovered. I have a full backup from January 2024 and two incrementals from October 2024 and March 2025. on a second hard drive Can I restore only the most recent catalog without restoring the images? If not I am wondering if I can restore just the two incremental backups? I have never had to restore before so I am uncertain how this works. I know I will have to re-import and re-tag all images after March 2025 regardless of how I recover.

Thanks. Yes it is still chugging away, now close to 30 hours into this. I was able to open the organizer and I immediately set my preference to not do facial recognition. And there have been no more updates to the files with face in file name. Do I leave everything up until the CAXMPfiles folder has not been active for an hour or so?

I am running Windows 10. The drive for the PSE 15 catalog and all the images is an external Toshiba drive. I believe it is a regualr drive, not SSD. I did not have facial recognition on in Photoshop Elements 15 so there should be no json files. There seems to be a lot of disk activity on the C drive where neither the images nor the PSE 15 catalog are stored. Is the conversion putting the new PSE 21 catalog on the C drive? We are now about 19 hours in.

I installed Photoshop Elements 2021 and am in the process of Convert catalog. I have a large catalog (over 80,000 images, catalog is 456MB) with all of them tagged. The process has now been running for over 6 hours. What is this process doing? The images should not be moving as I understand it. All linkages from the PSE 15 catalog to the images are there.

I need to download SQL Server 2016 LocalDB for a separate project. Before I do that I want to ensure that this will not affect the Organizer in Photoshop Elements 15. I have a very large number of photos in that database and I do not want to do anything that will threaten the catalog. My operating system is Windows 10. Does anyone know whether I am okay doing this?

Obviously step one is not applicable. Dragging and dropping from the "dying" disk drive to another thorugh Organizer does not seem feasible (there are about 75,000 images on the "dying" drive. And the problem I am experiencing is that occasionally everything just hangs when accessing the dying drive whtether through PSE or just through a copy using Windows Explorer.

I am running PSE15 Organizer with images on two external hard drives and my catalog on my internal C drive. My operating system is Windows 10. I have a full backup and two incremental backups on a third external disk drive. One of the external disk drives containing my images seems to be dying. I would like to purchase a new disk drive and have the images from the "dead" drive that are on the backup placed on the new drive. My catalog on the C drive is fine as are the images on the second external drive. I am not sure how the restore from backup works. Do I just plug the new drive in and do a regular restore? Does the new drive need to be in the same slot as the original drive? Does it need to have the same name as the original drive? What happens on the still good second external drive? Do I end up with duplicates or are the original images replaced?

Actually I found the catalog (should have searched the forums first. ) I restored the catalog to my external hard drive. I then went to the Organizer in PSE 15 and tried to Manage Catalogs so that I could convert it. I selected custom location and pointed it to the folder. The program would not recognize it as a floder with the catalog data. So I copied the folder to ProgramData/Adobe/Elements Organizer/Catalogs where the default My Catalog is. When I tried to do Manage Catalogs at that location it still would not recognize it. I then renamed the My Catalog that was there and renamed my old catalog My Catalog and it still would not recognize it as a catalog folder. Help!!

My computer, running Windows 7 and Photoshop Elements 11, hard drive has died. I have purchased a new computer with Windows 10 and Photoshop Elements 15 installed. All of my pictures are on an external drive, which is okay, and I thought the catalog was on the same external drive thus having a very easy transition to the new computer. However I cannot find the latest catalog! (The one that was on the external drive is an old one from when I migrated from Elements 8). So now I am guessing that many years ago I used a default path and put it on the PC's internal hard drive. I did have the internal hard drive backed up on a second external drive using Windows backup but I cannot find the catalog there either (I am not sure of the path of the catalog). I do have everything backed up on a third external drive using Photoshop Elements backup (a full backup and two incremental backups). Is there a way that I can restore just the catalog since all of the images are okay? Or is there a way to find out from the Elements backups, the path to the original catalog so that I might find it on the Windows backup file?

My computer hard drive just died. Luckily my PSE 11catalog and all images are on an external hard drive. If I purchase a new computer with Windows 10 and PSE 15 what would I need to do? Could it be as simple as to just plug in the external drive? Or are there additional steps? Any advice would be appreciated.
