@Deleted User, OS: Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.16 The moving process involved transferring files from the hard drive to an external drive within LR.  When I looked over a couple of other folders I had moved within LR in the last couple of weeks, prior to the event described in this thread, I noticed a pattern. None of the folders was moved completely-- all of them contained some files in their original location on the hard drive, and among those files were those that were put in collections. For some reason, it appears LR did not move any of the files that were in collections during that process. Todd, so you agree that this is 1) An Adobe LR issue and 2) LR official documentation online makes no mention of it and in fact advises users of LR to engage in a risky practice that could result in major file loss and 3) LR has said this issue is solved (according to this thread) when in fact it is not solved. So among people in the know or who frequent this forum, the copy/paste method is known to be safer. Well that's great, but that is not enough, not by a long shot, wouldn't you agree? Is this copy and paste method what Adobe officially recommends? Or are they on record recommending that people move files within LR? If it's the latter then they should at minimum issue an official policy that warns against major unrecoverable data loss during this procedure.  I see in the site you referenced someone suggests changing the name of the original folder to break the LR link and then copying and pasting. I will probably do that.  Regardless of what my happen to cause files to be lost, this was not due to a power outage. This is a LR issue and has been documented in the past-- of which this thread is evidence. I do back up the LR catalog frequently. That is a moot point.  I did have most of the files backed up, thankfully. However, now I have the remaining files left on a HD, which LR did not move, and which are contained in collections, and a backup in a separate location which does not contain every file, but most, that LR has no awareness of. Today I moved a folder inside LR to an external HD. The folder itself was over 40GB. The progress bar stopped about 1/3 way through the process, and after 15 minutes no more files were being moved. I finally stopped the move by clicking the "x." When I looked at the size of the folder in the external HD and the size of the original folder still remaining, I had lost over 25GB!!   Arguably the most important function LR has is not image organization, it is image preservation. And if files just disappear due to LR glitches, then steps need to be taken to fix that as priority #1!  I will not be moving files within LR any longer, and I will not recommend that anyone do so. To me, one of Lightroom's biggest drawbacks is the interface and lack of customization available for the interface. After enjoying the look and layout of Bridge, it's a big let down to see the low contrast, cluttered UI for Lightroom. I want to be able to change the text contrast/brightness, select a background color for the panels, increase the size of the borders between the panels, and be able to see thumbnail metatdata in the same format Bridge offers, with the ample space between thumbnails. Bridge offers the thumbnail view, which to me is much sleeker and less cluttered looking than the grid view of Lightroom. Even the document path, which is clearly displayed at the top of the screen in Bridge, to me is far superior than what Lightroom offers. Also, the scrubby sliders which are so easy to use in ACR, are more difficult with Lightroom, since you have to move the mouse to the far right of the slider to use them, where as with ACR you simply hover the mouse over any portion of the slider. In a nutshell, I would like Lightroom to look exactly like Bridge,except with the extra functionality Lightroom offers. ... View more

In order to see which color channels have been adjusted in a given selective color or hue/sat adjustment layer, Photoshop forces you to select each color channel individually and access the drop down menu. A quick way to speed up the process would be to add a checkmark or other sign that a particular channel has been adjusted. Additionally, I would like the option of expanding the entire set of color channels to see them all on the screen at once, or add checkboxes so I can decide which ones to expand. ... View more

Hi c.pfaffenbichler, I have had some computer issues the last few days and am just now able to work on this in earnest.  First, I tried to run the  Michael's code in the script editor, but it returned an error. I believe this is because of the conditions set, which required layers to be active, etc.  I'm nost sure then, what use the script editor will be in this particular case.  Next I then ran it in CS5, and separately ran your code in CS5 as well.  Michael's code created a new curves layer, and if I understand it correctly, set the groundwork for me to be able to add in curves points using the color sampler variables he created.  Your code returned a curves layer with anchor points in the R,G,B channels, the input and output values are not entirely clear to me upon trying to parse the code.  The B channel for some reason was assigned two anchor points with output values. The net effect of the curves adjustment was to make the photo much more red in appearance.  I realize I need to learn a lot more code to really understand these scripts that have been writtenn I'm reattaching the photos with a 3rd, which is the result of the adjustment.  I have removed the painted circles around the color sampler points.  The top most photo below is the adjusted photo, the second is the darker sky exposure and the lowest photo is a brighter exposure for the hills and river. The brightness of the sky in the  top photo is kind of mid-way between the brighter and darker photos.  The main thing is that it, and the background hills retains detail, which can be adjusted later in photoshop. ... Here are a couple photos.  The color sampler points did not show up in the photos when inserted, so I've marked them on the top photo.  The goal is ultimately to blend the sky of the darker photo in the brighter exposure.  And the best way to do this is actually to use the color sampler points from both layers and take the average of them, and set the average  as the output (not swap the values as I indicated in my initial post). I didn't think this extra step of figuring out the average would require much effort once I figured out how to do the heavy lifting, so please excuse me if that confused things. For the photos below,  I would load the photos as layers.  Then using the sampler point on the left, I would look at the RGB values of it and then hide that layer and look at the RGB sampler values of the same point on the photo below it.  Then I would take the average of the R value for the top and bottom and use as the output for the curve layers I create, one for each photo.  (the input is obtained by shift+clicking on the color sampler on each layer).  I would repeat the process for the right most color sampler point, so that each curve now has two anchor points on each RGB channel. Thank you both for your thoughts.  I see Action Manager = ScriptListener, which is good to know.  I will be working almost always with two color sampler points, so based on what you've both indicated, that could simplify things.  Is the Adobe Scripting Guide the best place to go to find the necessary commands to do steps 1-4, and 6? In step 7, if I use the action Manager, how do I indicate I want to recall the stored color sampler values?  I could be (and am probably) way off here, but I thought Action manager records scripting code based on what happens on the screen, so if the color sampler points are stored as variables in the script, it seems like I wouldn't be able to access them in the Photoshop interface to record with Action Manager. I.E. Action Manager would record the numerical value of the points that I move in the curves without tying them to the color sampler variables. Conceptually it seems like it should be easy to write code that sets the color sampler points as variables, then calls the channels of the curves layer and sets the input and output numbers to the desired variables.  Thanks again for giving me some guidance. ...
