The distill phase was slow, but Barb found the problem for me--I had inadvertently selected the Use Distiller option in the Publish pod. This setting appears to be linked to the Print Book to PDF command in the File menu, because the fix worked when I used the command. I never use the Publish pod.

Thank you, Barb! You're brilliant! The problem was indeed that the "Use Acrobat Distiller..." option was selected in the Publish Settings. If that's not a default setting, I must have changed it at some point not realizing that it would affect the Save as PDF command in the File menu. I deselected the option and tried again. It didn't work at first, but after restarting FrameMaker, the change took effect and I'm back to a normal printing speed. This eexperience is a good example of how the plethora of settings distributed across many dialogs in Frame, Acrobat, and Windows can be confusing to all but the most experienced users. In any case, many thanks for helping me to fix this vexing problem.

If that's the case, I'm afraid I see no improvement. I'm averaging about 10 seconds per page, whereas a few weeks ago it was more like 1-2 pages per second, if not faster.

That sounds intriguing. I had not heard of "PDF export" before and spent some time trying to find out about it in various sources, including the online help. No results. Would you mind explaining how to do that or is the feature known by some other name? Incidentally, the FM 2019 documentation recommends the File > Save as PDF method, which is what I've been using successfully up until a few weeks ago. Something has changed. My computer seems to be functioning normally other than being able to save FM books to PDF in a reasonable amount of time. Yesterday, one of the larger books I was working with took about two hours to convert to PDF. I tried everything I could think of, including rebooting Windows and checking for viruses, but nothing helped.

Yes, I have the latest version: 15.0.7.973. This is a recent development, so perhaps there's something going on in that release. I have tried four methods: Publish pod to PDF outputm, File > Save as PDF, Print Book to .ps, and Print Book to PDF. All are extremely slow.

When saving a FrameMaker 2019 book to PDF (Acrobat Pro DC installed), the Acrobat Distiller process takes anywhere from 8-12 seconds per page to process. For a 100 page book, that's over 16 minutes, which is several times slower than it used to be. What is causing this? I maintain my computer regularly and no other applications are behaving this way. Any suggestions?

I discovered today that Windows 10 Defender antivirus interferes with Acrobat Distiller. When I turned of real-time protection, Distiller ran normally. I tried excluding Distiller (acrodist.exe) from the real-time protection, but it made no difference. The only thing that worked was to disable the real-time protection altogether.
Adobe: please look into this problem. The workaround I described is no solution.

I had to save about 1,000 FrameMaker pages today to several PDFs. The process started normally until Acrobat Distiller launched, and then it took about 10 seconds per page to process. It turns out Windows 10 Defender Antivirus has a real-time protection setting that seems to treat Distiller as an untrustworthy app. I tried adding acrodist.exe as an exclusion to the real-time protection, but it didn't seem to make any difference. When I disabled real-time protection altogether, Distiller worked normally. Has anyone figured out a solution to this problem yet? Disabling antivirus protection may be a temporary workaround, but it's not practical.

We've got a weird problem where our reviewers can no longer participate in shared reviews if they use Adobe Reader. (This was never a problem before.) When they open the PDF, there is no connection to the review server and hence no comments visible. If we open the same PDF in Acrobat DC Pro, we're connected to the review server and comments are visible. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated, as we cannot expect our reviewers to purchase Acrobat DC Pro.

In earlier versions of FrameMaker, you could edit the maker.ini file to prioritize TEXT over other options in the clipboard when pasting text. The clipboard line does not appear in my FM 2019 maker.ini file.

When sending a PDF for shared review, my first step is to identify the internal server where review comments will be collected (in the Send for Shared Commenting dialog). Normally, one would only have to set up a single server profile, but I had to try many times in order to get shared reviews to work with an external WebDAV server, which resulted in a lot of different profiles. How can I delete the unwanted profiles?
