I am designing signs to go in the hallways of where I work, I built the designs in Indesign and used photo images from Getty Images, we have an account there, how should I proceed to design, the images are 300dpi or higher but on the design they big 96 inches by 36 inches. When I first pull the image into indesign its small i have to enlarge over 200 or more percent to fit, it has a bleed also, how do i prep the images so it does not blow out the pixes when enlarged?

Do you know of a tool that can convert png to tif, not one off manual, a tool that can do this on the fly as part of a production batch processing workflow on a production server? What could we use in a production environment.

We pull pdf pages into indesign create a pdf and use File Minizer to create nice quality and the size is great. We were using Pittstop on a mac to change the blacks in the pdfs to true black and true grey instead of Blacks and greys in CMYK or RGB. In the past, the Pit Stop process was doing this and it saved on the more expensive colored ink on the machines by using the black ink for black print, instead of using the RGB or CMYK to create black on the printer. Do you know if there is a way to do that in Indesign or some other program? Love your suggestion, I had found the Multipage Importer script Saturday and it works, today it was freezing up but works great now, all I need now is a automation like File Wrangler for Mac that renames the files for us since there are a lot of them. But so far we got the pdf issue fixed with the script you suggested, thank you. Tim

We were pulling into indesign because after croppin in Acrobat their system still read the files as 8.5 x 11 and with the script they are suggesting it allows us to do this quickly and InDesign takes out the extra white and makes the pdf the size needed. Thank you for your help.

Thanks for the input we are using the Multipage Script you mentioned and that has worked great, the problem was if we cropped in Acrobat their system was still reading the 8.5x11 and we needed it to be 7.5 x 10.630 the script works, by pulling into indesign it eliminates that step and we simply export to PDF when done and then run it through File Minimizer and the pdf is great quality and smaller, but now we need to find a program that works like wrangler on a mac where it takes files and renames them in numerical order, they have to have it that way for their system. I would LOVE the adobe scripting forum, I will check that out. Your suggestions are fantastic, it helps a lot, thank you.

I have a project where we receive PDFs and we need to crop them and I could use the help in automation. 1. We need to crop pdfs, but when they viewed by the system it still shows up full 8.5x11, I need it to stay cropped. Any Answers? 2. We were able to pull into indesign set to our new size but there are so many is there any way to automate indesign pulling in all the pages of the multipage PDF? Each page of the PDF on it's own page in the Indd Document. 3. We need to rename them after making the pdf, is there an way to automate renaming multiple pdf files with a macro. Bottom line we have to take multiple PDFs that are several pages each, crop them so they stay cropped and are read at the new size and then rename them to a new name, there are just simply too many to pull in by hand into Indesign. But if we can get the PDFs to crop and be that actual size Indesign might not be necessary? Crop PDFS to a smaller size and rename them all in an automation process.

Your information helped a great deal, I was able to figure it out using your information and doing the following. 1. I deleted the double Master page and I made a Master A and a Master B. 2. I put the backgrounds on the two masters. 3. I put the editable tagged info for data merge on the regular page. The reason it was not working was the backgrounds were on the regular page, now it is done in NO time, I am very happy and I thank you for your help, could not have done it without you.

I guess what I need to know is if I have 300 kids that have 2 pages each, one page has interchangeable information (data merge) how should the InDesign be based on the image above. 1. Do we have the information and picture just on one page? (the second one the back) and have 298 pages with just the background image? 2. Or do we have 300 kids with a page with info on it for each being 600 pages with the interchangeable information (data merge) on the second page for each. 3. Or is there only two pages with the info on the second page and it automatically creates a page for each kid based on those two pages? I am not sure I have the indesign document right? I tried the data merge and it worked for page one only and the other 300 plus pages stayed the same. Help.

It is the same layout only the names and some info changes, yes it is the same. Do you mean one page with info on it and all the rest of the pages with only the background? Example page 1 and two, two having the info you tag for data merge and the rest of the pages just the background? Or do you mean just two pages period with the second page having the data merge info? what are the steps once I choose one of these?

Yes there is a column in for each image with corresponding information. It changes on the InDesign part on page one but does not flow to the other pages changing it for each child.

The data seems to work, when I choose, name, image ect, but when I hit preview it is only on the first page and not the second. Should all the other pages just have background and I tag just the first page for Data Merge? What I am trying to figure out is do I need to put the copy on every page and an image box or just on the first? How do I lay out the InDesign part of it? Then the data merge.

I have a card design double sided, it is for a child sponsorship in Haiti, I need to merge with a spreadsheet that has over 300 kids, I go through the steps and it either puts the same photo and info on every page or just one. So my question is when I set up the InDesign Document how do I set it up, do I set over 300 Pages? Do I set up the copy on each page or will it place it on every page, do I leave all but the first page blank? Can someone list the steps in simple language? Every thing I look up starts after the indesign document is created and I am I will add a copy of the layout. It is a two sided document printed front and back 300 times plus.

I do appreciate the help, that was annoying, I just got this new machine (prefer me mac ha ha) I do have another question, perhaps you know how to do this. I have this logo in Illustrator, when you look at it, it appears to be a light logo, but instead of just screening the logo back to say 30% they made a blue box 100% of the color, placed the logo on it and I think did a clipping mask, my job asked me to figure out what percentage of the blue they used since their logo usually is 100% blue solid, but they used an opacity mask or clipping mask and I cant figure out how to determine that percentage, if I stop the mask it reverts to 100% blue and it doesn't show the percentage. its soooo annoying I got it to do it once long ago but it wont work, I mean why use a clippingmask for petes sake just screen it back so not necessary.

Very Helpful, I got it to work, the trick is once the arrows icon comes up don't click anywhere, I was clicking on the box making sure I had it selected, the arrows icon would just go away. If you click the directional keys as you say and move it works, thanks been trying to figure that out, I am a mac guy also been working on a pc for almost 5 years never had this problem.

if I undo the clipping or opacity mask there is a solid blue darker blue box behind logo, there is a white full page box over the logo, they used some dype of mask or transparency, its all grouped, when I ungroup it turns solid darker blue, but I cant find where I click to determine what percentage of transparency they used.

Unfortunately I cant post work art, but all I know is when you look at it in illustrator it looks like 15% to 10% of a blue color but when you get rid of the clipping mask it is solid 100% blue, all I want is to determine what percentage they used in the final look?
