I don't want to sound unappreciative, but can we keep the comments here explicitly within context of the subject. I'm not interested here in how best to operate either platform, I know from experience there are STILL problems sometimes with things like fonts when you move a document from mac to win or vice versa - and of course the KNOWN issue of more or less destroying tab features if a PDF is opened in Apple's Preview. I'm just wondering if creating PDFs on a mac sets us up for problems once they are moved to a windows environment.

In most cases yes. But a major tool like Quickbooks usually is perceived as more secure than XYZ form link sent by the accountant.

One variable here, I'm working on a Mac. While I understand that the platform wars are mostly over, I know that there are still roadbumps here and there. I have to wonder if I created these on a Windows machine if some of this might go away...?

Yeah, I thought about online options. But most of my clients asking for this are CPAs. And both they and their customers are usually, [and understandably] leery about entering very sensitive financial nformation into a browser.

I've been designing hardcopy forms (usually in Adobe Illustrator) for clients for many years. Progressively, several of them have been asking for fillable PDF versions. It was working ok at first, but lately, I'm getting all kinds of feedback about filled forms not being able to be copy and pasted from (all fields locked) when my clients get forms back from their customers. Or my FAVORITE one - if someone simply opened one of their PDFs in Apple's "Preview" program, all the feild tabs are no longer present when my client gets the form back into their Acrobat. I've looked everywhere for alternative tools for creating fillable forms, but everything is just clunky and "microsoft word" looking. Any tips to keep things in the adobe ecosystem would be greatly appreciated.

for me, the solution (as mentioned in an earlier reply) was converting the DIN font from opentype to truetype (i used cloudconvert dot com) i removed the original opentype from my computer, reopened the software to verify it was no longer available, then installed the new truetype version. the original files re-opened exactly as they should and the error pop-up no longer appears in the resulting acrobat file.

i had this problem recently with the DIN font. the odd things is that it happened in one document, but NOT in another (nearly exact) version. after a fairly exhaustive web search, one person mentioned that converting the font from opentype to truetype solved their problem. i used cloudconvert dot com yesterday to do that, and indeed, it solved the problem.

let me see if i understand this correctly. clock wipe is no longer included (unless you're on windows. which i think speaks VOLUMES) because "most people see wipes as cheesy these days." but somehow cube spin, page peel, and cross zoom are still included? yeah. that makes COMPLETE sense. #swallowsbullet

sorry, i'm kind of a raw nerve on the subject. spent about three hours last night on forums with a lot of "well, deal with it" answers... while i accept that maybe i'm incorrect about the SOURCE of all the extra, unwanted fonts. but your answer is still a non-answer. i have manually gone into fontbook and disabled every font it will let me. and even run "monolingual" and still, in my adobe tools. there are piles and piles of asian and arabic fonts that are bulking up my menu. there are dozens of search results out there but not a single one gives an effective way to remove them. there are some hacky thing's i've found. one was removing folders within the programs in the "show package contents" section of the adobe tools. i think the folders had an ".lproj" or something extension? i tried that. but after i did, illustrator would no longer launch. even after putting the folders back. i still had to uninstall and reinstall. any other suggestions.

i'm so sick of these snarky "non-answers" prior to the cloud paradigm, i don't recall adobe tools auto-installing a bunch of stuff you COULDN'T remove. if any fonts WERE installed outside of your control. they were in the fonts folder. where you could either self-manage. or use your favorite font managing tool to tidy up your list. i've gone through font book. and you can disable any non-system, fonts. and that works fine. BUT (as i understand) adobe cc programs now have a pile of various and various language fonts more or less "embedded" in the contents of the programs. i'm a professional designer. not a hobbyist. i don't get revved up by a mile long list of crappy typefaces. i have maybe my dozen or so, go-to fonts. but now those are scattered about among whole bunch crap i have no interest in. : (

ok. 4 hours later. here's the answer: - that goofy downloadable patch thing everyone links to is garbage! even if you DO put things in the right places. you're still not where you were in CS6. so forget that link even exists! - lightroom's web gallery function is actually considerably BETTER than bridge's was. you just need to dedicate the 30 to 60 minutes to get your head around learning another piece of software.

good lord! what a huge steaming pile of horse manure! lets just say the average user realized they needed to go to the root library (where that missing bridge cc extension folder actually resides) as opposed to the user library where they usually go. then the "preview in browser" doesn't work anyway? so you have to hit and miss with the options and actually open them each time to get your way to the look you want? RUBBISH! i just can't understand why something so basic. so fundamental to photographers. something adobe had working beautifully, just got tossed out! skimming web searches, it looks like maybe lightroom does it now? so know i have to open a new application (and learn it) do do something I've been basically doing in my sleep for like 8 years. i'll say it again. RUBBISH!

the mouse wheel thing is great. but not as responsive as a slider. and that arrow thing is screaming joke. i can move a slider with my mouse from 100 to 3 in about a quarter of a second. why in the hell would i want to highlight it then use a whole other input device - ludicrous! ive been using illustrator since version 1 and it gauls the living daylights out of me that theyd take a feature they had. that made sense and simply remove it. are they going to remove the slider from photoshop as well? it does the exact same thing. why would it be there in photoshop and NOT in illustrator of the same release version. from where i sit, if this as well as the new subscription only CC thing are the shape of things to come. im just going to cancel my subscription and sit comfortably with my CS4 master collection discs and get back to being productive.
