Question

Adobe reader closes when I try to File/Open a document or if I try to save as to the local computer

On one of our Windows 10 pcs all the users on one pc are unable to File/Open any document. They are able to open the document via clicking on a document itself, so it's not a file issue. The users are also unable to "save as" any of the modified documents to the local computer. It like the windows file explorer can't open, just in adobe reader. The "save as" function works in all of their other programs.  Reader simply closes with no errors or popups whenever we try to open or save a document on Reader.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled reader 4 times and I have used the AdobeAcroCleaner on the pc, and I tried turning off protected mode in security preferences, but still all of the users on that pc can't save their documents to the local pc.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi there

We are sorry for the trouble. As described Adobe reader closes when you try to File/Open a document or if you try to save as to the local computer without any error message.

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC you are using? To check the version of the application please use the link: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html

Make sure you have the latest version 19.21.20061 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates. You may also manually download the patch using the link: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html

Since you have reinstalled uninstalled reader used the AdobeAcroCleaner on the pc, also, tried turning off protected mode in security preferences with no success, please try to create a new user profile with full admin right and try to install the application there and check if that works. You might have to repair the user profile in which you are experiencing the issue.

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal

We started up the pc today to try your suggestion and the pc no longer boots up. We call our pc vendor and they said we have a bad motherboard based on the BSOD we received today and we possibly a bad hard drive as well. So we are going to assume there was windows system corruption at this point and reformat the pc when we receive the new hard drive. I’m sure the issue will be resolved after that. Thanks for your help up to this point.
