Cannot Open b/c Not a Supported File Type or File has Been Damaged

I have AA Reader DC 2017.012.20098 on a Dell desktop with Windows 10.

When I boot the computer I get an unsolicited message from AA Reader DC: Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open '39cc10d.5a73cb26' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).  I have no idea what the file is or why Acrobat is even opening.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?  Thanks.

OK, the original error has stopped. I now get a message asking me how I want to open file .5a73cb26.  It offers Adobe Reader as an option (although it no longer exists on my PC).  I chose Notepad and got a display of jibberish.

I'm guessing the next step is to reinstall Reader?

That probably will not fix the issue. For some reason, your OS had decided that whatever type of file that was needed to be open in Adobe Reader. Now it may try and open in Notepad.

You probably need to go to a support forum for your OS to get this one worked out. It's not an Adobe Reader issue.

    Hi Thomasd,

Based on the above mentioned description, when starting the computer, you are getting an error that Reader is unable to open a specific file, is this correct?

Please try performing a clean boot on your computer and check if you are still receiving the message.

Hi, I attempted several clean boots with no change to my issue.

Try associating pdf to open with Reader and see if that works. Steps given in the following link:

Associate PDF files to always open in Acrobat or Reader on Windows 10

Keep us posted with the results.
