comments pane won't stay collapsed during mark-up

A user asked this question, and I have the exact same question, so I'm also asking in hopes of getting a quicker response (sorry for the double-post, but this is a rather annoying problem):

'I am marking up a PDF and the comments pane keeps expanding and will not stay collapsed whenever I select a text box or shape I have placed on the page. Before today (14 Dec 2018), I was always able to select, move, and resize these elements without the comments pane expanding. I don't understand why it will not stay collapsed now. The pane takes up too much room and zooms me out.

Is there any way to disable the pane from automatically expanding every time? I know how to disable it from expanding upon start up, but I just need it to stay collapsed when selecting shapes and text boxes.'

    Thanks for replying. My problem isn't solved yet.

    To give more info on the problem, this is what I'm referring to, and I'll give you some examples:

    1) whenever I click on the 'highlight text' tool, the comments pane on the right side of the screen automatically opens now; it didn't use to, and now, because it does open, it covers up a large section of the screen and text, and I constantly have to reclose it. It didn't used to do that. When I say 'used to', that was 2-3 days ago. This is something that just started. Did you upgrade or change Reader DC?

    2) whenever I place a rectangle around text, and double-click the rectangle, I used to get just a small pop-up comment, and I could simply type a comment into the pop-up, post it, and go about marking up other things. Now, the comments pane flies open from the right and I often times can't see the text I'm trying to mark up. So I have to go close it again b/c it gets in the way of text. Again, this just starting happening 2-3 days ago.

    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I still have the problem.

    I could upload a screenshot, but it would only show the comments pane being open. I don't know how that could help you. It would be better to upload a short 10 sec video of it happening, although I don't know how to do that.

    Please try to consider these written examples I'm detailing and try to provide another solution. (The 'hide the righthand tool pane' Abode article you gave me a link to doesn't solve the problem.)

    I'm using a Windows 10 system, and the Reader version is: Version 2019.010.20064

    Hi phillipjohnmc,

    Could you try updating Reader to the latest patch 19.010.20069 using  "Check for updates" option under "Help" menu,  Reboot the machine after installing update and check if that resolves the issue.

    Are you referring to hide the righthand tool pane in Adobe Reader? If yes, you may refer to the following Adobe article Permanently close the Tools pane in Acrobat Reader DC

    Are you on Mac or Windows machine and what is the version?

    What is the version of Adobe Reader installed? To identify the version, please refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC
