How to preserve graphics resolution when creating .pdf from .docx?

When I create a .pdf version of an MS Word (.docx) file using Acrobat Reader DC, the resultant resolution of the graphics portions is noticeably lower than in the source document. Is it possible to specify settings that will prevent this degradation?
