Not Able to Import Other Image Types when Creating Digital Signature

I  am trying to create a new digital signature in Adobe Reader DC and import a a scanned copy of my signature, but the only option available is PDF format...not any other image file formats. Why is that?

    Acrobat Reader supports only the PDF format.
