Ruler grid options not showing in my menu

I am wanting to utilize a ruler tool to more easily keep my place while transferring data from PDF to our ordering application.  I have seen articles that this is in the View->Show rulers & grids.  However, the only option I have under that path is Line Weights.  How do I get the other things I've read about to appear?  Version I have is Adobe XI.
