How can I insure the validity of this site and is it really Adobe?

Which site? There are no downloads on forums.quite.com. You are wise to be careful but you meed to check the exact page for a download, not follow a link from it, because links in bad sites can go to good sites.
Official Reader download is http://get.adobe.com/reader. Get in the habit of checking certificates on web sites.
