Unable to open Microsoft Documents from Adobe Portfolio with Adobe Reader DC

My Company recently pushed Adobe Reader DC to all users. Now we are unable to open office documents. Error =  Adobe Acrobat - PDF Portfolio error - Acrobat cannot open the file attament because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened.  - Normally to fix this issue we would edit the registry tBuiltInPermsList and then set the file types to 2 to always allow.

However I see here -  https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/PrefRef/Windows/Attachments.html#idkeyname_1_3287

It says - Note: This preference is not respected for any Reader 10.x version with Protected Mode enabled. There is also a bug in DC products which prevents setting permissions via tBuiltInPermsList.

Which seems to be true in our case as even after changing the settings it does not work. Is this still a known issue, is there an ETA on resolution or any suggestions on how to fix?

Hi there

We are sorry for the trouble. As described above, you are getting the error ' Adobe Acrobat - PDF Portfolio error - Acrobat cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened.'

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC  and the OS of the computer you are using? To check the version of the application please use the help article : https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html

You may please refer to  a similar discussion here (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-reader/acrobat-cannot-open-the-file-attachment-because-your-pdf-file-attachment-settings-do-not-allow/td-p/5984121) and see if that helps

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Amal
