After Effects is really slow to preview

I recently started my first project in After Effects 2022

I need to listen to my audio a lot as I'm doing subtitles but the preview takes for ever to load even though I have:

- chache frames from start of range

- 12 GB of my 16 GB of ram saved for AE

- CPU reserve for other apps 10%

- 40 GB of disk cache on a high speed internal HDD

My system runs on:

- NVIDIA GTX 1060

- Intel I7-7700 HQ 4 core

- Windows 10

Is it a hardware problem, is this normal, or is it a setting I've messed up.
