Close Encounters of the Third Kind Red Orbs

Hello All. I was looking for a tutorial on creating something like this (but not as crazy as what Entertainment Effects Group did for Spielberg). Just some Red orbs moving through 3D atmospheric space with my sky in the background (that is not static and will need motion tracking).

Any basic lens flare plug-in can create such effects these days or tools like Trapcode Lux based on faux volume rendering. That and of course any of it can be created from a bunch of layered circles of different sizes heavily blurred and blended together like I did ages ago in my lens flare tutorials and presets. I'm sure they're still somewhere out there...
