I have a comp of logo and text which I have animated, but need to fly through it to then have an asset appear or fade in from the back. Do I have to somehow link all the layers and then scale out? If so how do I link all the layers?

You could do this in a 2D fashion, but this is what 3D layers and cameras are for. There's a 3D layer switch (looks like a cube) directly to the left of the Parent dropdown on each layer. Make all your layers 3D, add a camera, then switch to one of the other views, such as Top in the Composition panel. This will allow you to select each layer and position them in 3D space. Then you can animate your camera through the layers.
