I want to try this tutorial. This logo is in png format and background is trasnsperant as well. I assume this logo was created in Ai and converted into png. I wish to know whether I am correct.

The logo was probably an image the presenter found somewhere. If it were an AI file, there would be no need to convert the AI file to a PNG.

A better option would be to convert the AI file to a shape layer and change the rendering options to C4D or the new Mercury 3D option in AE Beta. You can bevel the edges and can add reflections. Stacking 3D layers with the classic rendering option has some pretty severe limitations.

I'd give the tutorial a C for workflow and a D for explanation. It is an example of a typical tutorial prepared by a well-meaning enthusiast instead of a professional.

It has a trasnsperant background in a PNG file, which is unusual. Because you can see logo "G" has a exactly G shape matching background. There is no square background as like in the usual PNG file. You can come to this conclusion by seeing the image of the "G" logo.
