Multiple shapes drawn instead of one

The standard steps apply: Check your hardware acceleration settings, update your system's graphics driver and in this case also the input device driver and settings. Programs registering multiple inputs (or none at all) is most of the time simply a miscommunication across the graphical interface caused by bad timings or incompatible drivers.

When you uninstall are you removing your preferences or keeping them? If you're keeping them, try uninstalling again but trash the preferences. Also, in the future, please provide more detailed information such as the exact version of After Effects you're using (the version in the Help menu, not just AE 2022), your operating system, and embed screen recordings or screen captures so we don't have to download unknown files.

This is unusual. What are your system specs - please include CPU, GPU, RAM, Storage and OS. 

My initial thought was a corruption to one or more AE's Preferences Files. You can try to trash AE Prefs instead of reinstalling - let us know if this helps.
