Need guidance on masks and scaling

BEGINNER Need guidance on masks and scaling - I've a text animation where the text appears through masks. I've a circle shape as the full stop which was made with an alpha matte. I want the circle to increase in size so that it covers the screen and it's all purple. Any ideas? Thanks!

Looks like you've got it all ready.  One thing to change is to use the Pan Behind tool or hit A on the dot's layer to centre the anchor to the dot.  Then you can keyframe the scale and the dot will expand.

OR

Seeing as it's a shape layer, you can simple expand the Contents, then expand the Transform settings within the contents and there's a scale just for that dot.  You can then keyframe that to scale up.

OR

Same as above, but instead of keyframing the scale, you can expand the Ellipse Path and use the size properties to increase the size in pxels.

Thanks! When I scale it, it only appears as big as the rectangle for the mask (picture below). Basically, the full stop would appear alongside the word purple as it appears via the mask, then increase in size to cover the screen in purple. Not sure what's the best way in going about this.

Looking at your screenshot, the dot is using the layer above as an alpha matte, so the only bits exposed are the bits inside the above layer.  If you remove that setting, it should work for you.
