Playhead bug when going from Premiere to After Effects using Dynamic Link

Hey team!

 

When going from Premiere to After Effects using "replace with After Effects composition" / Dynamic Link, the playhead disappears / becomes frozen in After Effects in that composition, and other compositions until you close and reopen After Effects. The composition usually plays back fine, but without being able to see the playhead it almost renders this function completely useless. I'm on the newest version of everything CC, computer completely up to date on all drivers etc. as well. 

 

Specifically, in Premiere i'll add a color matte to block off on the timeline where I want an animation, then replace the color matte with an AE comp so I can do my animations there. Hopefully you're able to reproduce (and fix) this!

Thanks for writing in. We'd love to investigate. Do you mind sharing the following details?

  • What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)?
  • Are you able to reproduce the issue in a new project?

To start, you can try clearing the preferences of Premiere Pro and After Effects.

Hey Nishu,

Running Windows 10 Pro V22H2 OS build 19045.2604

CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) W-3365 CPU @ 2.70GHz 4.00 GHz

GPU: Nvidia RTX 3090

RAM: 512 GB

 

Yes, I am able to replicate in a new project, but in a slightly different manner. In a brand new blank project, when moving into AE, the playhead marker itself stays in place and then after pausing playback the playhead jumps to where it should be. I think once a few more dynamic link compositions get added it will go back to disappearing all together.

 

Please let me know how I can continue to help get this resolved 🙂

Thanks for sharing the details, Ian.

Did you try resetting the preferences? Did it help? Also, could you try switching to Mercury Software Only in File > Projects Settings in After Effects?
