Question

Adobe Captivate 8 YouTube widget in Moodle 2.7

Can I please ask if anyone has had any trouble playing YouTube clips within their SCORM packages on YouTube?

I have created eLearning material using Adobe Captivate 8, and using the built in YouTube widget, added these onto relevant slides.  I did this in October and they all played without any issue, until Monday.  Now all that you can see within the package is a blank white space where the YouTube clips were.   The reason we do this is so the video plays automatically and the users can't advance until the video has played in full. Also, the quality of the YouTube clip is much greater than the other way of importing a video, which pixelates it too much.

Steps I have taken are;

  • Checked whether any internal IT setups have changed – they haven’t as the YouTube clips don’t play from home.
  • Updated the YouTube widget from Adobe.
  • Deleted each YouTube widget in Captivate 8 and added them back in.
  • Searched for a response on the Moodle community forum.
  • Checked our media settings that YouTube is accepted – it is.

What is unusual is the mobile devices still play these videos without any issues.

Does anyone have any experience of this or any solution?

Many thanks,

David.

Have you uploaded it to the webserver to test or just locally?  If just locally, upload it.

YouTube changed their code sometime last year and this broke the Captivate YouTube widget.

The recommended approach now is to use the Captivate Web Object instead and use the YouTube embed codes with it to reference the video page.
