Question

Audio not extended

Hey all,

Coworker recorded a project from PPT.  Adding audio to each slide, she chose NO to "extend the duration of the slide".

When previewing every audio was cut to 3 sec which is default in preferences.

Is there any way to salvage those recordings?  She was able to listen in full in the Slide Audio window, but when clicking Save it cut it.  I checked the library and they are all 3 min.

What is the best way to prevent this in the future?  Can you set the default to automatically extend slide to match audio?  Seems like we could lose a lot of audio accidentally.

Thank you for your time!

Do not add audio to the PPT, but do it in Captivate.  I'm sorry to repeat this over and over again: if you just want a conversion tool for PPT, go for a PPT plug-in, you don't need a full-blown powerful eLearning authoring tool like Captivate.

Export the audio clips from PPT, import them in the Captivate's Library and drag them to the appropriate slide.

We did do the audio in Captivate.  There is no audio in PPT, we just imported the slide background.  When you click Save it asks do you want to extend the slide to match the audio.  If you say No, then it cuts the audio down to the slide length which is 3 seconds - losing the rest of the audio you can hear in the external Captivate audio window.  Wondering if we can restore the original audio.

And agree with you.  We create everything new in Captivate, just have some older material to import and add audio.

    Thanks!

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Did you look for the audio clip in the Library?

Safer is to create audio clips in a dedicated audio application. I'm using Audition because I have a CC account, but Audacity - which is free -  is a good alternative. You can import the audio clips in Captivate's Library, and will be sure they are 'unharmed', even if someone forgets to extend the duration of the slide, because the original clip will still be in the Library.
