can a .cpvc file be changed to another file extension?

You can do whatever you want, in fact if you change the file to .zip you will notice that it´s only a container for other cpo, cpth, cptd formats but you cannot do nothing with those files because they are only readable by CP itself.

Why would you do that? Changing an extension will make that file unusable.
