Captivate 7: Object copy/paste results in corrupt output...

Hi All,

I am copying & pasting objects on multiple slides (such as Text Box & Buttons).

Then, I am editing those Text Boxes on individual slides.

Finally, when I publish the project, the output in Browser window does not show the output.

Has anyone experience this issue or anyone has any information on these issue?

I am using Adobe Captivate 7 (build 7.0.1.237).

Thank You.

    Correct answer Lilybiri

I don't have CP7 anymore, support is difficult then.

However copy/paste is indeed a practice that could cause corruption.  I'm not sure what you mean by 'text box: is that a Text Entry Box, a Text Caption or a shape filled with text? Why do you not use an object style for the objects?  SImilar for the buttons, which type of button do you talk about: text button, transparent button, image button or shape button? All have an objec style. It is a better practice to use styles instead of styling an object, then copy/paste it a lot. If you need a text container in the same location for a lot of slides, create that container on a master slide and use that master slide to create slides. If you need a button on the same location, you can do the same at least with shape buttons. Or you can put the shape button on the first slide and time it for the rest of the project.

Object styles and master slides are part of the used theme, which you can save as a custom theme and reuse for future projects.

Personally I avoid copy/paste as much as possible. If I need several instances on the same slide, will use Duplicate (CTRL-D) which is not using the clipboard, contrary to copy/paste.

    Hello Lillybiri,

Appreciate your response very much. Specifically, I am talking about Text Caption object & Transparent Button object.

I understand your point about using an Object Styles (for Text Caption and Transparent Button).

I have managed to create the Object Styles for Button & Text Caption; and now I can place them on the Slides.

However, the reason I used Cut/Paste object because they have specific Text as well as Transform & Timing attributes.

Now, if I add 30 buttons over 70 slides (and they are not on same spot), I have to change Text & adjust Transform & Timing attributes for every button.

Is there any easier solution to resolve this request? or is there a Macro Recording that can run to adjust timing, size and text?

    I do appreciate your help.

    Thank You.

I understand what you mean. What I told about copy/paste is something I learned many many years ago because of all the problems it can cause (not only in Captivate).   If the objects have the same style, for Transform and Timing you can always use the option 'Apply this to all objects with same style'. If my memory is correct, you have those options also for different parts of the Properites inspector.  If you need same text, but that text in the scratch area, time it for the rest of the project, and you can copy text in all slides where you need it (text copy/paste is much less problematic than the containers which have also formatting etc. You could have problems with Transform (not with Timing) because I fear that location and size are in the same part (rotation as well). I have stopped asking to split them. YOu don't have rulers nor guides in 7.
