Captivate 8 odd behaviour with many slides in project

Hi, I'm using Adobe Captivate 8 for Mac on MacOS Sierra. It works fine with most projects I create with it.

I'm trying to create something akin to a software sumilation that consists of lots of imported sides (new project > image slideshow) and a series of clickboxes that link these slides together to create a virtual copy of the software I am simulating that the user can click around and experiance when they have no access to the software themselves. (It's used for providing technical support)  I have done many of these before, but my latest project is a copy of the latest build of Windows 10, and even after sliming down the project as much as I feel I can, I am left with about 680 slides. All my past projects have been less slides than this.

Captivate does not seem to handle a project of this size very well and when I try to preview the project or publish it and view it in a browser the swf file does not seem to load correctly and displays a white screen with nothing on it and it continously makes the default captivate 'mouse click' noise over and over.

If I click slide 20 (or around about) then use the Preview > From this side (So the previewed project effecticly has 20 less slides in it) then it works fine (apart from missing content) I know there is nothing wrong with the first 20 slides because I can use Preview > Next 5 slides to preview any of the first 20 or so slides and they work fine.

So my question is does anyone know if/what hard limits Captivate 8 has in regards to the maximum number of slides, or is there no maximum and something else could be wrong? Is there a maximum number of objects in a project? (And if so does this include slides and clickboxes? Roll over captions?)

PS: I have also copy+pasted all slides to a new project, removed uneeded items from the projects library, cleared the captivate cache etc and none of thast helps.

Well, I've continued to remove slides from my project and alter existing slides to achieve the same thing as the removed slides (roll over images etc) and it eventually seems to have removed the problem, but not in a clear way and I'm none the wiser about what exactly causes this behavior.  I would remove a couple of slides, the problem would go away, I would add a few click boxes to some other slides, the problem would come back again, I add a few more and the problem goes away again. Eventually after cutting down to about 670 slides it has not happened during the preview of the project after many changes. Very odd.
