Chrome and flash in captivate

Recently, all of the webinars we have in Captivate would not run. We determined that Chrome had performed an update that disabled flash. We re-enabled it on our computers and have provided instructions to our members for how to do so as well. However, we were told that chrome doesn't want anyone to use flash as it allows viruses etc. to enter the computers. Has anyone else heard this? If so, aside from rewriting all our webinars into HTML5 which would defeat the purpose of why we chose captivate because we wouldn't be able to use some of the interactions we chose it over other products for, what might be an option (if any)?  Thank you!

I have been publishing captivate tutorials with both the html and swf options since 2012. They are no longer displaying in Chrome. Are they being blocked because there are swf files included even though it was published as both? I have asked Adobe if there is a known fix to update older tutorials but have not received a response. I appreciate any help, thank you.

Your dual publishing issue may be due to security restrictions introduced in your Chrome browser by a recent update.

To check, publish your current course as ONLY SWF and see if it will play in your current Chrome browser.  If it doesn't, that's probably due to the requirements recently introduced by most browsers that end users must give explicit permission for Flash content to be played.

Flash is being left behind because of the growing popularity of mobile computing. Because tablets and phones are not going to use Flash, then you are going to see less and less development that relies on Flash. There are known security holes in Flash, but since it is being phased out most developers will just stop using it rather than spend resources fixing know security issues.

Flash was a great platform, but so was Beta Max tape and IBM OS2, but if the majority of the user communities are not using your platform, it goes away.

If you have the original cptx-files you can try to publish to HTML5. Beware: some functionality will be lost (look under Project, HTML5 tracker) and sometimes the result will look different as well. Moreover since there is no real standardized HTML5, every browser has a different support and that can lead to problems as well.

The fact that Flash was eventually going to be dropped from all platforms has been well-known for some years now.

Take a look at this post from 2015:

What the 'Death of Flash' Means for E-learning Developers | Infosemantics Pty Ltd

If you need to migrate courses to HTML5, take a look at this:

Converting Adobe Captivate SWF courses to HTML5 | Infosemantics Pty Ltd

One of the main reasons quoted for Flash being seen as 'insecure' is that it has been targeted by hackers using its security holes as a gateway to introduce malevolent code (e.g. viruses) into people's systems.

I personally feel very sad that Flash was not made secure enough to beat this threat, because SWF format is far more powerful in many ways than HTML5.  Losing the ability to use Flash content will put e-learning back a decade or more in terms of functionality and engagement.  But that's progress for you...

Currently, I was using SWF as my output format.  I noticed the latest Flash Player in Captivate is version 11 but the actually Adobe Flash latest version is 25. Will that make a difference when trying to view my files?  I created a menu and the buttons (links) do not work.  I've access older files that worked in the past and they do not work now.  I upgraded from Captivate 6 to Captivate 2017 and it's still an issue.

I need Help!!!!

Thanks in Advance.

Publish to HTML5? Which interactions are you talking about? Rollovers are officially not supported for HTML5 output but on desktop/laptop they can be functional anyway. Text animation is not supported, as are some effects.
