"Down" States feature is not working properly

I'm using a template where the states were set up in this Captivate 9 file. I have 13 buttons. Even though the style name is the same for the states on each button, each time I click on a button, then revisit the slide with all the buttons, the state of several of the buttons is different.  Each button is set up to use the Style, but some of them don't appear to be. When I look at the style of each state for a button, the fill color and opacity are the same, yet, some buttons are showing a completely different fill color and opacity. I have 3 states for each button: Normal, Rollover, and Down.  I have checked the box "Retain State on Slide Revisit."  Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I don't really understand the question. You talk only about InBuilt states: Normal, Rollover and Down. Those states have a specific goal: they appear when the cursor is not over the button (Normal), when the cursor is hovering over the button (Rollover) and when the button is pressed (Down). None of those states will remain, only appear in those specific situations. The option 'Retain state when revisiting slide' is valid for extra, custom states, if the state of the button has been changed by an action. Is that the case? Can you check the Object State panel for custom states? Do you see actions that change the states? Do those button use the same object style (that style has the InBuilt states, not the custom states)?

Captivate 2017 has added a 'Visited' state, as InBuilt state, but you are clearly talking about CP9.

There are only the 3 InBuilt states when I look at the Object State panel.  So, apparently the "Retain state when revisiting the slide" is not pertinent since I don't have a custom state. If there is no custom state for any of the buttons, I'm still confused as to why many of the buttons look different when I revisit the slide. I checked Advanced Actions and don't see any that would change the state. All the InBuilt states use the same object style.

It sounds like what might help is to create a custom state for each button. Is that correct?

Hmmm: "All the InBuilt states use the same object style'? That is strange: an object style has normally 3 different InBuilt states for Normal, Rollover and Down. Small differences like color fill and/or text but rarely exactly the same. Can you post a screenshot of such a object state panel? Which type of buttons: Transparent, System, Image or Shape buttons?

If you want a Visited state, you have to add it, and it needs to be a Custom state. You'll have to apply that state with the action triggered by the button.
