Dropdown Menu help

Hello! Using Cap 9, and  I'm looking to use the drop down widget to show and hide different groups of objects.  There seems to be little to no documentation on this, and I can't quite seem to figure it out.  Do the menu items in the Widget Properties box need to be variables, or do I call them out separately in a separate advanced action?  Or am I completely wrong in all aspects?
