E-mailed Link Points to local drive

Hi Guys

I'm no expert with captivate 9 but this is totally weird.

i've published project and it opens and works lovely when I open it from the html icon but when I e-mail the link to the html for others to view, it simply points to a local location on my local drive (laptop).

No matter what I do, I simply can't get it to publish the correct link.

My only walk around so far has been to send an e-mail with a hyperlink to the html link on the company server, which works OK but is not how it should work.

Can anyone offer any advice

Kind regards

Kevin

Hi Lilybiri

Great advice but I can't send it to an outward facing server, it can only be sent to our intranet based server but thanks for a good answer.

A server can be well protected, for HTML output this is the best way to see the full functionality.

Second best: zip the published folder, and send instructions to unzip and launch the html file.

If you can cope with a temporary SWF output (only possible for a normal, not for a responsive project): publish to an interactive pdf, which means that you'll end up with only one file to send. Drawback: user needs Adobe Reader and Flash plugin. Flash plugin is also required if you publish as standalone version (exe or app).

Hi Captiv8r

I've tried two approaches

  • First within outlook I simply click on attach file
  • Secondly from within the folder I've right-clicked and selected share

Neither appear to work, I've even involved our company IT Dept (who've had no experience with captivate) without success.  It's them that found that after emailing the link it was changing the destination.

I am totally confused by all this

Upload all the files to a webserver and send the URL.

Hi there

How exactly are you getting the link in your email? I'm assuming some sort of copying and pasting?

If so, what does it show when you paste?

Cheers... Rick
