Correct answer Erik Lord

Sounds like some sort of bad 'corruption' in the file.

Try:

1. Delete all unused items in the library

2. Save As to a new file

3. Open that new file and see if you can copy/duplicate

If not, what happens if you select ALL slides and copy?

If no crash, paste all those slides into a new, blank CP project file.

Otherwise, you can try to export the current project to XML, then import that XML into a new project...see what happens and how much you retrieve...

Also, make sure you are launching Captivate with Run As Administrator privilege and your CPTX project file is located on your local Hard Drive, not a LAN or network drive.

Yes, your recommendation was the first thing that Adobe Support asked me to try. Didn't resolve the issue completely due to the corruption of the project itself.
