Question

How can I remove the submit button from a text entry box in Captivate 7?

I'm adding 4 text entry boxes to a Captivate 7 slide, and I only want one Submit button - or maybe even no Submit buttons. There's no Delete choice in the button's shortcut menu. In the text entry box Properties tab, most of the items in the Options section, including "Show Button," are grayed out. What did I do wrong, or what should I do, to get rid of the Submit button?

Thanks, everyone, for the help. I found that when I moved Submit buttons off the stage, they were ignored when tabbing through fields and buttons, which was a concern I had (see above). The slides in question now function as they need to.

I had to deliver the first build of the project today, and I've already put way too much time into it, so I'm not going to pursue this at the moment. However, I do need to understand more about question functionality in general and the Submit button in particular, and I'll follow up on that sometime.

    Thanks again,

    -Stuart

If you delete the "Shortcut:" (using the Trash Can icon on the Actions sub section for the TEB) then the "Show Button" option will be force selected and grayed out.  Maybe that is what was being see?

You should be able to select the button and press delete from your keyboard.

If not, you can always drag the submit buttons off the stage (slide) and they will not appear. But you should make sure the learner can still "submit" there answer in some way. I usually take advantage of the shortcut options in the properties menu of the TEB, and set it to "Enter" or "Tab".

    I hope that helps

    Thanks for the quick reply.

When I select the button and press the Delete key, nothing happens.

I have dragged all but the last Submit button off the stage, but I'd rather get rid of them, in part because it could be confusing to the user if they try to tab from field to field, and it takes two presses of the Tab key to move from one to the next. Not a huge problem, but I'd like to get rid of the buttons.

Any idea why "Show Button" in the Properties tab would be grayed out? I've played with other settings, to try to find what's causing that, but no luck so far.

If these Submit buttons are each related to one of the Text Entry Boxes then clicking only ONE of them will not trigger Validation of the contents of ALL text entry box fields.

If what you want is that clicking a single button will trigger validation of ALL boxes then you need to use a Conditional Action to do the validation and trigger execution of that conditional action when a button is clicked.
