Question

Resume Funcationality without an LMS - Is it possible?

Hello!

Semi-novice user here...I was wondering, can I create variables (?) to track a user's progress in a Captivate without an LMS?  For example, I have three sections in my module. I want the user to complete one section before moving to the next. In order to do that, I have sections 2 and 3 buttons disabled. When the user gets to the last page in section one, I enable the button for section 2 and place a complete check mark on section 1. If the user closes the module and comes back in, I want the check mark for the completed sections to still be there, so they don't feel like they have to start all over again. What I'm looking for is basically a resume function, without an LMS. Is that even possible. And if it is, can you provide step-by-step instructions?

Thanks for the help!

Some of what you want is possible out of the box with Captivate, but some is not and would require custom programming.

As to what IS possible, see this tutorial:

Create a Dynamic Menu Slide in Adobe Captivate | Infosemantics Pty Ltd

However your desire to be able to close down the Captivate module and have it remember which sections the learner completed is not supported.  There is some limited bookmarking capability known as Self-Paced Learning which you can activate via a check box in the Project > Skin Editor.  However, this is mainly aimed at taking the learner back to the last slide they were on when they closed down the module. It's not going to restore all the values in your custom variables.
