Question

Run an advanced action from Standard Action

I was looking at Rod Ward's book on Actions, and I thought I saw (in Captivate 7) the ability to run an advanced action from within a standard action. Did Adobe take that capability away in Captivate 8? And why would they do that?

    Hi there

To my knowledge there has never been an ability in any version of Captivate to launch one action from another.

I'm wondering if perhaps you are confusing this with an ability to use a Conditional (If Then Else) action so it has a segment that is always executed as if it were a Standard Action. And to make that happen, you simply configure a condition that will never possibly evaluate any way but true or false.

For example, check to see if a literal value of 1 is equal to another literal value of 1. Unless the universe implodes, this would never evaluate to a false value. So only the actions specified for the true evaluation would ever be carried out. The Else part would never be reached. (and if the universe implodes, it won't matter)

That setup works in all versions of Captivate that support Advanced Actions.

    Cheers... Rick

You can combine standard and conditional actions only by using multiple

    decisions in one conditional action.

There has never been any ability in any Captivate version so far to execute another Advanced Action from within an Advanced Action.

To my knowledge, my e-book does not suggest this.
