Software Simulations with Adobe Captivate 9?

Hello,

I am a relatively new user, but I have managed to use Captivate 9, 64 bit on Windows 7 fairly successfully for several projects.

Much of what I do is software training, so I thought Captivate would be a great tool for that. However, I am struggling trying to get it to capture my screens. Specifically, I am trying to capture the Ethernet Adapter Settings screen in the Windows Control Panel. I can get it to capture me double clicking on my Ethernet adapter, but it will not capture any further screens once I start drilling down to get at the Ethernet settings for an adapter.

I've read other threads on here where they suggest clearing my Preferences folder (I did that) and now I can hear the capture sounds. I've tried about every Recording option I can find including Manual, but nothing works.

Is this a Windows thing where Adobe prefers Macs, or is it just not working?

Thank you,

Peter

Just resort to hitting the key assigned for manual capture in these cases.  You will often find there are dynamic screens or dialogs in applications that do not send out the required 'events' that Captivate is listening for to trigger a capture.  You need to be always vigilant to detect when a capture has not been done and have your finger over the manual capture key for those moments,

As a tip, since I am right handed and the default manual capture key is PrintScreen, which is usually on the right side of the keyboard, I always reassign the manual capture key in Captivate to F2, which then means I can hit a manual capture at any time with my left hand while using the mouse with my right.

    Hello Rod,

Thank you for the tip. What seems to have solved my problem is to run Captivate as an Administrator. I'd seen another post relative to this problem where that was mentioned. Luckily, it seems to work for me too.

Weird, but I'll go with it.
