Why won't widget preview after project is published to swf/html5?

I have a project which contains a widget. It previews fine when I click 'preview in browser' but when I publish it, in order to share it with colleagues, the widget does not appear- I can only see the other elements on the slide.

Here is how the widget appears in Captivate:

And here is how the slide with the widget appears in the browser after I have clicked on the .htm file in the zip folder:

I did get this error message when the content loaded in the browser. Is this something to do with the problem?:

I need other people to be able to review my content before it is published on an LMS. Is sharing the zip file and getting them to open the .htm file in their browser the best way?

The error message is telling you that you have set up the project to report to an LMS but since you are NOT launching it from within an LMS it cannot connect to the API for communication.  It's not the reason for your widget not showing up.

If you have been publishing as SWF output and then sending these zip files to your colleagues so that they can take a look at the content then you are probably running into  an issue where Flash Global Security is blocking the widget (and maybe lots of other things) from working.

Basically your colleagues would need to unzip the project to a folder location on their PC and then set this folder up as a trusted location in their own Flash Global Security settings to have any chance of viewing the content properly.  In practice this ends up being far too much trouble.

I would recommend you consider uploading your SCORM content to SCORM Cloud online LMS and send them all links to view the content from there.  This will give them a far more accurate way to assess whether the content is what they want as it will be playing from an LMS and over the web, like other users will eventually see it.

    Thank you Rod. I've now convinced my boss to let me move to an LMS for testing the course!
