Can I purchase a subscription on top of another subscription?

I currently have a 12 month subscription that expires in April but there is a big sale for another 12 month subscription. If I buy another, would I have to cancel the first? Or can I use it after my first one expires/ extend the first one? 

Do registration codes expire?
