keyboard malfunction

Hello Gang. I am new here. I have a new apple computer at home and I am used to windows at my job. Stupid question but I cant seem to change the size of anything by using shift command to keep the ratio. I tried many combinations but still can't seem to make it happen. Any help would be appreciated.
