Stop unused programs from updating

Does anyone know if there is a way to select which programs are updated? It is very frustrating to have to wait (and waste storage space) for updates on programs that I don't want and don't use. I have no use for Camera Raw (who would if we are using Lightroom) nor Bridge yet I can't update Photoshop and Lightroom without it going through the whole mess.
