Why does CC InDesign upgrade open with a trial version?

I upgraded my CC InDesign to version 13 on my IBM so that I could open a colleagues Mac file completed in a newer version (I believe also version 13) of the product. Now when I open my existing files or their file it does so in a trial version. I assure you that I have a current license and that I was logged in with my name and password in Creative Cloud with I performed the upgrade. How do I fix the disconnect?
