Dreamweaver & ASP / DB Development

You asked if it is true that latest version of DW works well with data-driven websites.

In two words, you bet! Considering the given, known facts that you work with/in a variety of web authoring apps (legacy versions and other web authoring apps other than formerly Macromedia, now as Adobe), I was a bit surprised that you didn't even try DW8 for 30-days try out.

I'd bet you that you'd be deeply impressed with the quality of DW8 capacity to work with data-driven apps such as PHP/MySQL, and the other db apps.

You might, as well, consider to look at buying this book (this is really excellent book and I highly recommend THIS book) called "PHP for Dreamweaver" whose authored by David Powers. In this book, it covers mostly all angles of issues pertaining to setting up PHP or other application servers, database servers and Apache web server on your local machine. Along with these great topics discussed, the author also include in-depth, unbiased information about data-driven application development around Dreamweaver 8.

Enuf babbling at this point, you owe this to yourself by trying out 30-day with latest version of DW8 (please note that the current version of DW8 is v. 8.0.2).

If you are using and working with Window platform, please review the Dreamweaver TechNote on how to install DW8 8.0.2 Updater due to some known issues associated with Dreamweaver on Windows for some reason. So please read THAT first before proceeding to install. This probably will save some of your time and trouble.

Finally, I would think you won't be disappointed by giving DW8 a try and you'd go for DW8 eventually. Make it work! :)

I believe Ultradev was the equiv of version 4+dbconnectivity. DW is
currently at version 8. Ultradev hasn't been made for years.

Thanks for the reply. Just need to decide between 8.02 or 8.0 - any suggestions?

Yes, but it actually started with MX (DW 6), not MX 2004 (DW 7).

Yes, with regards to CSS rendering, et al. No with regards to ASP server
behaviors until you get the 8.02 update. Whether you love or hate the 8.02
update depends on how you use the program. ;)

I think so, though I've passed on the 8.02 update.
