Change Bars - Locating

Being fairly new to Framemaker 8, I am having some problems with some basic tasks. One of those is locating Change Bars on the page. I want them to go to the outside edge of the page; odd page - right side; even page - left side. But no matter what I select under Format>Document>Change Bars, the change bars will follow whatever location the change bar is on the first page. How do I get them to alternate?

    Van/Arnis,

I have adjusted the margins so that there is a difference between the outside edge and the binding edge and the change bars work as they should; i.e. on the outside edge of the page.

    Thanks,

    Van,

Thanks for the information. The margins were set up previous to my arrival on the scene, so I will adjust the margins and try it. Will let you know the outcome.

    Robert,

Note that Side Farther from or Closer to Page Edge refers to the side of the text frame that is farther/closer to the page edge. Thus, if the margin on the binding side (inside) is larger than the margin on the outside, you want to select Closer, because the outside edge of the text frame is closer to the paper's edge.

I have not tested what happens when both margins are the same. Maybe this is your situation. If so, make one of the margins a little bigger than the other, then choose farther/closer accordingly.

    Robert,

Have you set the "Position" to "Side Farther from Page Edge"? You also
need to have "Automatic Change Bars" turned on.
