Help! I cannot import SVG anymore (FM9)

The maker.ini file in my FrameMaker 9 directory shows lines for certain API clients outcommented. One of them is the SVG import filter. On that line, the svgfilter.dll is mentioned, but it is not available in my filters directory. I tried renaming the reference to the available SVGRE.dll in the root directory of FrameMaker 9, but this causes an error when Frame tries to initialize the client. Is this a bug in my installation or some kind of hidden feature in Frame 9? Can anyone help me out here ?

Jang, as a test, I went to the Adobe SVG site here

    http://www.adobe.com/svg/examples.html

and viewed the first chart demo. Click on the Auto=populate button to populate the chart. Right click on the chart and do Save As.

Note that the is named as *.svgz, and also that in FM9, ver p237 there isn't a drop-down for this file-type in the import dialog, only for *.svg, so I had to just view all the files and choose the saved .svgz file.

It imported into the FM file just fine.

This is on WinXP, SP2. What O/S are you using?

    Jang,

This is what I have in my FM9 maker.ini for the SVG importing:

;SVG Import=FileToFileGFXImport, SVG, FrameImage, SVG, ORBL, SVG, SVG, filters\svgfilter.dll,all,^.svg
SVG Import=FileToFileGFXImport, SVG, PDF, SVG, ORBL, SVG, SVG, filters\svg2pdf.dll,all,^.svg
;svg2pdf=Standard, Converts SVG to PDF, filters\svg2pdf.dll,all

AFAIK, the svgfilter.dll has been replaced by the svg2pdf.dll.

The import/export filters should be located in the \filters folder and not the root directory, so I wouldn't recommend pointing the filter to the SVGRE.dll module.

I found the svg2pdf.dll but not in the FM9 installation. I had to copy it over from an older FM8 installation together with the one line from the old maker.ini to make it work. I have no idea why the DLL was not in my installation, as there were never any options to choose which filters to install in the first place. So it really sounds like a bug in the installation package of FM9 to me. Still, I found my way around it.

    Ciao
