Is there any way to export a document (with master page) in xml format

I have documents that contain master page. When I export this docuement into XML, data from master page is not exported. Is there any settings or some other way to export content of both master and body pages into XML?

    Yanesh,

    Yes, there is a way. But why would you want to do that?

    If you save your FrameMaker file as MIF, you can use the free MIFML converter by Leximation to transform this MIF into an XML version of that MIF.

    I am pretty sure, you wanted something else, but that is what you asked.

    Thanks for the reply. I want to convert a FM document into InDesign document. One approach I though of is by exporting XML from Frame and importing the same into InDesign. Then I found issue with master page. Is there any better way?

    Somewhere there is an MIF to InDesign converter. But don’t expect wonders, the basic philosophy between the two products is quite different, both have unique features not directly available in the other product.

    About how many pages are you talking? If < 100 I would use copy & paste.

    Every automated process requires a certain amount of »technical quality« in the source documents. Unless the FrameMaker document is not already XML-structured this quality can not be guaranteed. Well, I’d like to put it this way: If someone wants to move from FrameMaker to InDesign, they love freedom – which is the opposite of rule-based working (which in turn is a prerequisite to seamless processes).

    In my understanding of XML and FrameMaker, you should not store data on a master page. A master page is part of the template and used to format the XML data when you open the XML file and apply the template. If you have real data stored on the master page, you need to revise your element structure to include it somewhere, such as an attribute in the root element. And then revise the master page of your template to display the value of the attribute.
