Numbering pages differently in only 2 files in a book

Right. I wouldn't restart those things for each chapter, but you can. Play with it and see what meets your need.

However, if you have numbered tables and figures and you want the numbering to start at 1 for each chapter, set PARAGRAPH numbering to restart for each chapter.

In the book window, have you right-clicked each FM chapter and set the chapter number?

Setting up <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> on the reference pages of your TOC is half the battle.

Next, right-click each chapter in turn and set chapter, page, and paragraph numbering. The first chapter you might set to "1" "Numeric," the first page you might set to "1" "Numeric," and the first paragraph you might set to "Restart Paragraph Numbering." But for subsequent chapters, pages, and paragraphs, you might choose "Continue Numbering ...."

If you are using <$volnum>, then you need to set the volume number (from the book file) for subsequent chapters to increment from the previous volume. Most people use <$chapnum> as the chapter number, but you still have to set the chapter numbering to increment from previous.

Brian, this may be a duplicate. Not sure if it got posted.

I tried to change the TOC reference page but it just added 1- to all the other pages. I'm just not sure which pagenum lines to add <$volnum>- to

Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

If you're getting A and B in each files' page numbers, you just need to format the TOC. <br /><br />In the TOC file, on the Reference Pages, you'll find a section with entries for each tag that you include. They'll probably be in the format <paratext> <pagenum>.<br /><br />Insert the <$Chapnum> variable before <pagenum> so that the entry becomes something like:<paratext> <$chapNum>-<pagenum>.<br /><br />Save the TOC and update the book.

You need to add the <$chapnum> building blocks to your TOC entries for
those paratags in the TOC Reference page.
