Hi,

I have a Problem with the Printer 'Acrobat Distiller' in FM 7 because I have migrate Adobe Acrobat 9. The new Printer name Adobe PDF.

I find the entry in the File maker.ini :

;FrameMakerPDFAssistant=Standard, Change default printer for Acrobat Distiller, fminit\framepdf.dll,all

I modify the name but I have same Problem : "FM didn't find the Printer Acrobat Distiller".

How to have the new printer Adobe PDF with FM 7 ?
My Computer is XP SP3

Thanks.
Best Regards

Changing that entry in maker.ini does not do what you think it does; you should restore it to the way it was previously.

When you look at hte list of printersin Windows / Control Panel / Printers, do you see a printer named "Adobe PDF"?

The best way to have FrameMaker print to "Adobe PDF" is to use the free "SetPrint" utility from Sundorne:

    http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/framemaker.htm

What this does is set the printer named "Adobe PDF" to be the default whenever Framemaker starts.

With versions of FM prior to FM8, it really is not advisable to use the Save As PDF for creating PDF files. Instead, do as Sheila recommends, install the SetPrint utility and have it point to the AdobePDF printer instance.

Then when you want to create PDFs, print to the AdobePDF (optionally you can divert this to a file and then manually run Distiller using your required joboptions file)

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I will test the software.
Just one question, why it is not recommended to Save As PDF under FM7?

It was buggy & unpredictable. You didn't always get FM using the correct printer instance (Adobe PDF - instead it grabbed other postscript printer instances) which affected the PDF output. That's why it's recommended to install the SetPrint utility to ensure that the AdobePDF is always the FM deafult printer.
